AeroTek, an industry leader in aerospace metal finishing, today announced the installation of a new closed-loop wastewater treatment system that will significantly reduce the company’s carbon footprint.
“Ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our team and for our community is a core value at AeroTek. Our new wastewater treatment system is part of our unwavering commitment to continually improving our environmental performance, and it will help us reach our target of reusing 90% of the waste and cooling water used in our production processes.” – Jonathan Schofield, President and Chief Executive Officer
The closed-loop system significantly reduces AeroTek’s carbon footprint by improving the efficiency of gas, water, and electricity consumption. Additional benefits include increased volumes of clean water for processing operations and significantly reduced wastewater and heavy metals concentrations to levels well below regulatory requirements.
With the new system, which became fully operational in February 2022, AeroTek’s waste treatment and laboratory technicians will have access to real-time analysis of wastewater quality. Off-shift automated identification of issues through cell phone messaging ensures timely and complete coverage of water quality issues.
For the quickly growing residential segment of the Region of Durham, AeroTek’s wastewater system will save the equivalent annual water consumption of approximately 200 households. As well, the system is part of AeroTek’s expanding offerings to customers without the restrictions of water treatment capacity, and contributes substantially to the company’s sustainability and carbon reduction efforts.
This is a significant investment in the environment, demonstrating AeroTek’s commitment to lead the way towards sustainable, environmentally friendly metal finishing processes.
