AeroTek Upgrades to NIST 800-171 Compliant Computer Systems and Networks

In 2020, AeroTek upgraded all computer systems, networks and procedures to be NIST 800-171 compliant. This was a large undertaking during COVID-19 restrictions and included the following highlights:

  • Replacement of AeroTek’s main and secondary redundant servers.

  • Separation of the VOIP phone system and the AeroTek network to separate server systems.

  • Replacement/upgrading of all AeroTek’s firewalls.

  • Upgrading and replacement of all virus and malware checking software.

  • Rewiring AeroTek’s facilities ensuring all computers are hard wired with shielded cables.

  • Implementation of a standalone wireless system for internet access for guests only, separate from the rest of AeroTek’s networks.

  • Development of computer access protocols to protect and control Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).

  • Definition and implementation of computer and system security protocols as defined by NIST 800-171 requirements.

  • Reduction and elimination of remote access to AeroTek’s networks except by security approved senior management.

  • Setup and installation of a security protected server and backup facility.

  • Setup of CGP approved offsite data storage in case of emergency.

  • Enforcement of all AeroTek employees being Controlled Goods Program (CGP)/ITAR approved.

All the requirements have been documented in AeroTek’s latest QAP 39 – Rev 8. Security Plan and are reviewed and updated on a yearly basis.

AeroTek is pleased to be able to continue to offer support to US government contracts with the NIST 800-171 initiative.
